How to answer interview questions and still sound like you.

The interview is where your book comes from. Here's how to get the most out of each question — even on a busy day.

5 minute read

The Interview screen

You see one question at a time, with a few small prompts underneath (“You might mention…”). The bar at the top shows where you are in the chapter.

Three ways to answer

  • Talk: tap the big coral button and speak. Your words appear as you talk.
  • Type: switch to Type if you're somewhere quiet or prefer writing.
  • Voice memo: upload a recording you already have on your phone.

Tips for great answers

  • Tell it like you'd tell a friend at the kitchen table.
  • Give details: where you were, who was there, what you saw and heard.
  • Don't worry about order or grammar — we shape that later.
  • Pauses are fine. Take your time.

Aim for two or three minutes per question. That's usually enough for a rich paragraph or two.

Follow-up questions

When there's more to a story, we ask a gentle follow-up. Answer it, or tap “Skip for now” and come back later.

Saving and coming back

Answers save as you go, so you can stop any time. Ten minutes a day is enough to finish a book in a few months.

Getting help

A family member can sit with you and tap the button, or type while you talk. Two people writing together can use co-author mode, which tags each voice.
